EQ Training

On 7/7, 6 Local Committees, together with MC team 05/06, went through a 7-hour “personal discovery trip” to search their own souls. Admittedly, it was an EQ Training facilitated by Mr. Charles Yu, a leading EQ psychologist in Hong Kong . During the short trip, all the participants not only got closer relationship with their group members and team leaders, but also understood how EQ contributes to a successful life. In short, we all had a fruitful, relaxing and inspiring day.

Annual General Meeting & Annual Awards

The Annual General Meeting was successfully held on the 16th of July. Directors of AIESEC in HONG KONG MC Team 04/05 have presented their achievements and non-achievements. Annual Awards were also presented in the meeting. Annual Partners' Day were held right after the AGM and a few honorable partners were invited to join.

Annual Awards Results
After 365 days of AIESEC Experience, it is time to celebrate the great results contributed by any single individual and Local Committees.
After seriously reviewing all award applications received, the panel made the final judges. The winners of awards are as follows.

AIESEC of the Year 2004/2005: Ms. Tracy Chan, Exchange Controller (Incoming), AIESEC-LC-CUHK 04/05
These awards should be given to recognize individuals for their AIESEC experience and contribution to the global organization. Basically, they should be those who are creating the most powerful impact to both AIESEC in HONG KONG and AIESEC internationally.

Progressive LC Award 2004/2005: AIESEC-LC-HKBU
This is to go to the Local Committee that improved their performances compared to the state they were the previous year. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge the Local Committee that improved but are not quite highly performing yet.

Creativity and Innovation Award 2004/2005: AIESEC-LC-HKU
The purpose of this award is to encourage creativity around the Core Work Process and other Global initiatives. Innovation and creativity can have a huge impact on motivation of members and this award should stimulate creativity in the organization.

Local Committee of the Year 2004/2005: AIESEC-LC-HKU
This is an annual award to recognise a Local Committee for outstanding overall performance. The awarded LC can be seen as a “ most respected Local Committee ”.

Congratulations to all the winners and we are proud of your endless effort to AIESEC in HONG KONG . We hope all of you can gear up and reach to the peak of the mountain with us in the Year of Excellence!

Information Systems Corner

AIESEC.net scalability update has released in Global Information Systems Community!

Currently AI IS Support Team is working actively on identifying bottleneck on the AIESEC.net server and formulating strategies to elimiate them. The solide-state disk (SSD) technology, a technology which is used by NASA as well as the U.S. Army, was deployed in April to improve the system performance. However, due to the presence of other bottlenecks, the overall system performance was not improved.

A roadmap has been developed and here is a brief summary of it.
Brief summary of the plan

3 key components:

  • Upgrade of AIESEC.net database server hardware (instead of one 2-CPU server we will add 2x 4-CPU servers, first by August, second in the coming 6 months).
  • Upgrade of database software from Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g, with clustering capability
  • User interface optimization (optimizing the most frequently used parts of the system)

We are confident that this upgrade will resolve the current problems, as well as provide enough capacity for future activities on the system. We expect that this investment will address scalability for the next 3-4 years. Please stay tuned for more updates and a faster and more reliable @.net!!

Moreover, the results of the survey conducted for Junior Achievement & AIESEC in HONG KONG are released! Please click the following link for the survey results.

http://aiesec.hk/JA/results.html

Please be reminded that another survey for MC Planning input was prepared and waiting for your valuable opinions! Please spend a few minutes to finish the survey at http://aiesec.hk/students/application.html. Your views and ideas are crucial for MC Team to build a visonary yet realistic plan for the Year of Excellence! Your effort are highly appreciated. Thank you very much!
